Yoko MizunoYoko Mizuno

I moved to Canada in order to pursue a career in counselling. My goal is to become a clinical counsellor, practicing in both Canada and Japan. I am currently completing my Masters Degree of Education, specializing in Counselling Psychology.

I have worked closely with clients who are struggling to establish new life goals and action plans. This experience has led me to become comfortable assisting individuals with the psychological challenges of loss and grief associated with the variety of these major life changes. Through training in palliative care I have become more prepared to assist with complexities of loss and grief.

Assisting with the facilitation of life skills groups, I have gained the experience within the dynamic of human relationships. I have assisted clients with building positive personal relationship skills and establishing patterns of healthy communication.

I have also worked with multicultural clients, as a bilingual advisor working in both English and Japanese, providing support on matters of sexual health issues to the diverse Asian population of Vancouver.

A person’s perceptions often influences the quality of their interpersonal relationships with their immediate community. As a counsellor I wish to foster healthy changes in people’s lives, through assisting clients to identify their individual belief systems.

My personal interest lies in the role of each client, in both identifying and deciding on, their own goals for their therapy and their life objectives. Each client is unique in how they view themselves, and their relationships.  I believe that each individual is the expert on their own life experiences.

I place an extremely high priority on developing a collaborative and respectful relationship with my clients. I am honest, and open to any opportunities for my own personal growth as a counsellor.  Most importantly you will find me to be genuine, caring and open-minded to any issue that you chose to bring forward.

I will provide counseling service in English and Japanese.
